David O’Leary
Dave’s past roles include elected chair of the National Council of IT Deans providing leadership to higher education institutions across the country to better align their curriculum with Canada’s National Digital Strategy and board member of the Government of Canada ICT sector council setting research and advising ICT policy for the country. He serves on the ACM Professional Development Committee,  Chairs the ACM Practitioner Board Marketing Committee and sits on the ACM Practitioner Board.  The ACM is the largest international science, innovation, education and practitioner association in the world with the Turing Award (Nobel Prize of Computing), operating 200 conferences/events, 78 publications, 1.5 million users of their digital scientific library, the world’s largest science research repository, and 37 special interest groups such as SIGGRAPH.  Dave is a founding CEO of a technology company; CIO in the post-secondary education system; vice-president in academia leading the largest business development program in the country per capita and winner of the highest leadership award (he retired from academia last year); international advisor for educational advancement for the IEEE. He was one of five global experts invited to present in China on educational technology and its impact on management and leadership. Dave currently sits as an invited member on the board of the National Business Technology Management university program operated by ITAC (Information Technology Association representing 33,000 plus businesses). He is past-president of the government chartered Canadian Information Processing Society of BC (CIPS is the official Canadian representative to the UN-founded IFIP (international federation of official national and international IT societies) and an advisor to the CIPS National Board Dave is a regular contributor to the International Data Group (IDG) – IT World based in Canada. (IDG is the world’s leading technology media, events and Research Company. IDG brands reach an audience of more than 280 million technology buyers in 97 countries representing 70% of the purchasing power in most countries). He currently serves as advisor and is working on business development with a number of startups based in Canada, USA and China and reviewing new deals on a regular basis as part of several private investment groups.
