Americans Struggling to Save

Almost half of all adults surveyed by the government say they couldn’t cover an unexpected $400 expense with cash, according to federal data cited by CNBC. 40% of adults say they’d have to sell something or borrow the money, or else not be able to pay a $400 surprise expense, according to the Federal Reserve’s Report on the Economic Well-Being of U.S. Households in 2017. The report also found less than 40% of working adults believe they will have sufficient savings for their retirement, while another 25% have no retirement savings or pension at all.
